AUDIO: Music & Technology
Thursday, March 13 2008 - audio, piano, demo, ivory
One of the things that is really convenient about being a geek and a piano/keyboard player is that the two areas have really started to gel together. Computers have become an important part of music and there are a lot of musicians falling behind because they are either afraid of modern technology or they just don’t understand it.
I was very blessed to grow up with a grand piano in my house as a youngster but today I just really can’t afford one and don’t really have the space for one so I’ve gone the route of using a weighted(piano feel) keyboard and software to get as close as possible to the real thing.
I’m constantly amazed with what is out there today in terms of software. Take a listen to the following sample I recorded.
This clip uses a software program called Ivory. Keep in mind I’m playing my keyboard which is hooked up to my computer and the computer software recognizes what I’m playing and converts the MIDI data to sound. The sound is scary real.
Bonus: Can you name the artists and songs I played in the sample?

Nice, and for the money it's Coldplay and I think Ben Folds?
